{England 2010} Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford is one of my all-time favorite places. I love the beautiful architecture, the great pubs, the theatre, the history. It’s most famous for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare, so Shakespearean history is everywhere. Yes, it’s touristy, but I still love it.

Since it was Tim’s first time there, we did all the touristy stuff. We visited Shakespeare’s birthplace, his grave, Anne Hathaway’s cottage (not the actress – Bill’s wife), and ate lunch at the Dirty Duck pub. The only thing we didn’t get to do was see a play, as the RSC is closed for huge renovations. Next time…

Ever since seeing Samantha Brown go to Stratford and eat at the Dirty Duck on the Travel Channel, I’ve wanted to eat there…so we did!

That night we had a relaxing dinner at our hotel, where I discovered they serve my second favorite cider – great day.

*Some of these photos taken by my mom or Tim. From the top: an adorable corner of Stratford; the museum part of Shakespeare’s birthplace; the birthplace itself; and again; the obligatory posed tourist-with-phone-box photos; Holy Trinity church; Shakespeare’s grave; the Dirty Duck; Anne Hathaway’s cottage; spooky/gorgeous grounds at the cottage.
